‘I’m gonna ruin them!’ rants the teen star

* Mar 5, 2009 * Miley Cyrus has spoken out against her one-time “favourite” band, Radiohead. In an interview with a Portland radio station reprinted by Pitchfork, the teen star vented her anger at the band for snubbing her at this year’s Grammy Awards. The singer, who claims Radiohead are “the reason I love music”, was less than amused when the band turned down an invitation to meet her backstage at the Los Angeles event last month. Apparently, when she extended the invitation to meet the band, Radiohead’s team told Cyrus’s people that “the band doesn’t really do that.” “The reason I’m in this business is to make people happy,” she said, implying that Radiohead aren’t. She added, “I left ’cause I was so upset. I wasn’t going to watch. Stinkin’ Radiohead! I’m gonna ruin them, I’m going to tell everyone.” –By our Los Angeles staff.

Disney needs to find some real talent–not any of this Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana b***s***. Well either find real talent or make movies like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast–the good stuff. Kids now a days are losing a sense of what good music is or just music in general. They think kids that go up on stage, fiddle around, and look “cute” are amazing. World’s so trippin’.

10. Our “athletes” think they’re so cool donning the Blue and Yellow. I’m sure I could walk onto the “baseball” team.

9. Guys have to awkwardly wait in the girls’ dorm lobby because the school believes in isolation of the sexes. But the honors dorm is co-ed, so I guess smart kids don’t have sex.

8. We had an assembly for Black History Month. The black guy up there does a presentation on stereotypes and uses that material for stand-up. I’m convinced that 50% of the student body became more stupid and more ignorant. Thanks, “Loma Linda MD.” We have another mandatory assembly on “Eating Disorders” coming up. Check back for rants.

7. The professors teachers are very unqualified. My English teacher got fired because he straight-up didn’t come for two weeks.

6. We have mandatory worships and assemblies (see 8). Students freak out if they don’t get a “check-in” slip as they walk in. I’m sure they really love the service.

5. The school president seems like a push-over. After every inappropriate thing said during assemblies or worships, he can’t do anything but laugh.

4. The administration office is clueless. Their job description should be: see others.

3. The “gym” is the size of my living room and cavemen must have lent them the equipment.

2. The schools initials are an embarassment to all sports-powerhouse schools. “LSU.” I refuse to call it that because “outsiders” get excited when you tell them you go to “LSU” and it takes explanation to tell them that we’re not the real “LSU”, but just a phony.

1. Vegetarian food.

So, the list seems to touch on some issues I have with the school. I have plenty more, but this will do for now. SDA schools are great, people.

Review: BlackBerry Curve

My phone officially took a crapper on me the other day. Just got me a BlackBerry Curve, and it’s pretty awesome. I’m not sure what all the hootin’ and hollerin’ is about the iPhone, but if it’s even better than the BlackBerry like they claim it to be, that’s too much awesomeness for me. This thing has yet to let me down. Because I don’t really like the whole touch-screen feel, before I get any further, don’t try to convince me that the iPhone is for me. Features such as “copy and paste” – friggin genius. Clicking on websites through the browser to download BlackBerry icon applications – friggin awesome. Somewhat-chained text messages – friggin sweet. Sound quality is superb. Being able to sync an iTunes playlist and play “Hail to the Redskins” as my ringtone – pretty ace. Anyways, so I downloaded the iPhone-esque theme ONLY ’cause I like the nice, clean layout of it.

Yup, so that about sums up my feelings towards the phone. CRACKBERRIES FA LYFE YO.

Today as I was driving to UCI to fill-out my final cancellation paperwork, I had quite an experience. The rain was just awful and my biggest-waste-of-money-in-my-life sub woofer wasn’t connected so there I was listening to a bass-less rendition of the latest Killers album (TOTAL SWEETNESS). After “handing over my keys,” both physically and figuratively, I felt a bit of relief. Plugged that slugger sub in and we were in business. The Killers just couldn’t have sounded better. I found my love for “I Can’t Say”, perhaps because it was clearly influenced by DMB so much. Sax and all. C. Beauford-esque drum fills. I have convinced myself that it was dedicated to the late LeRoi Moore, whether that was their intention or not. What a class act. I love it.

For the past month now, I’ve been looking for a new drum kit. Even though an avid drummer, I feel I am above a cheapy $300 set. No, sir, not for me. Only a $1,000 Tama kit will do. I have put way too many hours and money into the church kit, that I must have my own baby. I can’t take care of someone else’s baby anymore. So, despite the lack of funds right now, this is the kit I’ve decided on: THE Tama Superstar SL Custom Hyper-Drive 4-Piece Set. That Dark Desert Burst finish is so ace.

But, making this purchase poses many problems. I’m gonna want drum mics. Not the “drum mic kits” for a couple hundred, I’m gonna want THE mics. After roadying for FOF, I’ve experienced the mics they throw on these bad boys. Shure BETA 52A, Shure SM57, Audix D2, Audix D4, Audix ADX51, AKG 451s, the list goes on and on.

Cymbals. I’m gonna want cymbals. I’m gonna want half of what Carter Beauford plays, Spencer Kim‘s Istanbul cymbals, Chad Butlers ride, Steve Jordan’s high hats. This is gonna get bad.

Kit Accessories. I’m gonna have to have cowbells, tambourines, bells, chimes, triangles, wooden blocks, bells and whistles.

Drums and hardware cases for the rough transit between gigs.

In conclusion, I know just how bad things could get if I make this purchase. But I am going to carelessly walk into this addiction. Sure, I’m just an avid drummer and I may not need this nice of a kit, or those nice of mics, or those nice of cymbals, but I want to be a rock star. I want to break those drumsticks. I want to twirl those drumsticks. I want to live the American Dream. So, just let me be and waste my money.

Hopefully the Korean SDA community will fill me in with enough gigs to make this investment worthwhile, ’cause I’m not cut out to drum normal gigs.

So, it’s Christmas time, and it seems like this is the time of the year when people are in a different state of mind. For the past couple of weeks now, “______ is not in the Christmas spirit yet =(” has been all over the “Status Updates” tab of Facebook. Perhaps it’s because of the economic state of the world? So, what? People aren’t in the spirit ’cause there ain’t no money? So if that’s not it, what exactly is this so-called “Christmas spirit”? What’s included in this month and a half package? Does the Christmas spirit justify being kind, sharing, and buying each other gifts? Or does it just mean gingerbread men, cinnamon candles (my fave), hams, presents, parking-spot-dueling fatalities? Or perhaps it makes us happier because it reminds us of the birth of Christ? But, do we really need a special time of the year to remind us of that? Why does a society have to have a certain time of the year, where it’s “okay” to be nice, enjoy the company of your family, give to the less fortunate, feed the homeless, pass out bicycles, share smiles? That’s so stupid. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a good start, this Christmas thing; it’s a great idea. But, we’ve been celebrating this friggin holiday since 18-FRIGGIN-70; nothing’s changed. Christmas should be a stepping stone towards a life-long celebration of the birth of Christ, a life-long celebration of God’s love, compassion, mercy, humor, humility, wisdom; every aspect of Christ.

Looks like I’m the Scrooge this year.
